The Emerald New Deal: Leveraging the Legalization of Cannabis to End the War on Drugs

CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE RECORDING

Since the City of Oakland instituted a Cannabis Business Tax in 2009, it has raised over $45 million dollars for the general purpose fund—almost 50% of which goes towards Oakland’s Police Department. Please join Francis Calpotura, Executive Director of In-a(d)vance and Paul B., Regional Chapter Coordinator for Legal Services for Prisoners with Children, for a talk and Q&A about “The Emerald New Deal,” a grassroots campaign lobbying to re-distribute 100% of the city’s cannabis tax revenues towards programs and communities most victimized by the War on Drugs. Learn about how this initiative was conceived, where it’s headed, and how you can help. Lunch will be provided after the talk in the East Courtyard.

Please join the Berkeley Journal of Criminal Law for a series of lunch talks with practitioners, researchers, and activists on critical and timely issues at the intersection law, racial justice, and the decriminalization of poverty!

This series is co-sponsored by the DA Accountability & Participatory Defense Project and the Contra Costa Re-entry Project.
