Commercial Exploitation in the Criminal Legal System

Please join us at our next event: Commercial Exploitation in the Criminal Legal System on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 @ 12:50 pm - 2:00 pm.

Being incarcerated is expensive. Simply getting arrested often means getting strapped with debt. From phone calls to "service fees," our so-called justice system is a booming for-profit industry growing at the expense of those it touches. Join CAPS, BJCL, Defenders at Berkeley and NLG on Tuesday (11/17) @ 12:50pm to discuss how the criminal legal system doubles as a system of commercial and economic exploitation. We will hear from Bianca Tylek, Founder & Executive Director of Worth Rises, Bernadette Rabuy, a Senior Policy Analyst at the Prison Policy Initiative, and Brian Highsmith, Senior Researcher at the Arthur Liman Center for Public Interest Law.
